Player Biography
Hernán started his career at River Plate where he made 62 appearances scoring 24 goals over three seasons with the club. However following winning an Olympics silver medal in 1996 being the top scorer with six goals he moved to Parma in August of that year.
It was here that Crespo became a household name amongst the fans in Parma. During his four years at the Tardini he helped Parma to second place in Serie A in 1997 being the clubs top scorer that season with 12 goals. He also helped Parma to lift both the Coppa Italia and Uefa Cup in 1999 (where he scored the finals opening goal against Marseille).
In 2000 Lazio paid a then world record transfer fee of £35 million to take Crespo away from Parma where he scored almost forty goals in his two seasons at the Olimpico before moving onto Inter Milan to replace Ronaldo.
Crespo became one of the first signings after Roman Abramovich took over Chelsea in 2003 for £17 million. But failed to settle in England and was loaned back to Italy shortly thereafter to A.C. Milan and Inter Milan respectively. Once his contract with Chelsea expired in 2008 he signed for Inter Milan permanently on a one year deal before moving to Genoa in the summer of 2009.
In January 2010 Crespo made a sensational return to Parma after almost ten years keeping a promise that he would one day hope to end his career here. On the last day of the 2009/10 season Crespo scored his first goal since returning to Parma, adding to his record holding amount of league goals for the club with 63 goals in 129 appearances.
