Saturday, 21 November 2009Serie A: Fiorentina 2-3 Parma
Parma caused a huge upset by coming out on top 3-2 in a thrilling encounter against Fiorentina and as such overtook them in the table.
Bojinov nearly put Parma ahead after 3 minutes but failed to capitalize on the ricochet that sent him free on goal, firing wide.
But it was Gilardino who put Fiorentina ahead on 25 minutes, meeting a cross from Santana and burying his header in the far corner.
Parma hit back just 5 minutes later when Amoruso met Zaccardo’s low cross sliding from six yards to make it 1-1 going into half time.
Bojinov then put Parma in front after the break, springing the offside trap from a Galloppa free kick to volley at full stretch past a straneded Frey from six yards.
But Fiorentina equalised just past the hour mark with Gilardino popping up again to put another header into the bottom far corner away from Mirante.
Despite Fiorentina’s increased pressure pouring forward for the winner it was Parma who got their third when Lanzafame finished off a classic counter attack started by Panucci’s long ball over the top.
Fiorentina were reduced to 10 men for the final few minutes when Donadel was sent off earning a second yellow card for a vicious two-footed tackle on Morrone.
After 5 minutes of injury time Fiorentina were calling for handball when it struck Morrone but the referee waved play on. In the final few seconds Gilardino very nearly completed his hat trick but Mirante clawed the ball off the line.
The victory puts Parma in third place if only temporarily as both Samporia and Milan are set to play tomorrow.
