Saturday, 23 January 2010Serie A: Catania 3-0 Parma
15′ Mascara (C), 71′ Martinez (C), 76′ Morimoto (C)
Parma slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Catania this evening, a result that leaves them without a win in 5 and in free fall down the league table.
Catania took the lead with their first real chance of the match on 15 minutes when Mascara scored with a header from a corner after shaking off his marker.
Minutes later Parma conceded a penalty from a corner when Panucci blatantly tugged Spolli’s shirt but Mascara blasted the penalty wide having sent Mirante the wrong way.
Catania very nearly made it 2-0 before halftime after good team built up play that saw Richiutti’s effort was only just tipped onto the post by Mirante’s outstretched hand.
Panucci nearly equalised for Parma after the restart with an audacious lob that Andujar only just managed to tip onto the crossbar.
However Catania finally doubled their lead exposing Parma on the counter attack with Martinez springing the offside trap from a throughball to smash the ball into the far top corner.
Parma fought back with Andujar just managing to claw Amoruso’s header off the line from Bojinovs cross.
But Catania compounded Parma’s misery by making it 3-0 moments later. Substitute Taka Morimoto breezed past two defenders to tap in a low cross from six yards out.
Mascara very nearly made it four in the final minutes when his freekick floated onto the crossbar catching Mirante unawares.
In the end it was a comfortable win for Catania with Guidolin having it all to do to pick his side up from this defeat.
