Parma clawed back from a 2-0 deficit this afternoon only to see Genoa eventually grab the winner from a superb individual effort by Ivan Fatic which effectively ended Parma’s hopes of a European place.
Genoa took the lead on the half hour mark against the run of play as Rodrigo Palacio took advantage of a defensive mixup dispossessing Zaccardo and curling his shot into the far corner from outside the area.
With Parma struggling to make opportunties Palacio added his second shortly after half time after Palladino’s effort was parried into his path following Palladino’s surge into the area.
Parma nearly got a goal back from a corner as Massimo Paci’s header was knocked down for Crespo only to have his effort smothered by Scarpi on the line.
However it was Christian Zaccardo that grabbed one back for Parma on the hour mark rising above everyone else at the far post to nod in Lanzafame’s cross from the left.
Moments later Parma got the equaliser after an own goal by former Parma defender Salvatore Bocchetti. As Scarpi parried Bojinov angled shot it ricocheted of Bocchetti’s shin clumsily prodding it into his own net.
Genoa poured forward looking for the winner with Sculli forcing a reaction save out of Mirante but it was substitute Ivan Fatic that finally got the breakthrough with twenty minutes left to play.
Having just entered the pitch Fatic broke down the left flank and cut inside smashing his shot into the roof of the net.
