“We squandered so many chances” Parma manager Francesco Guidolin told the official site on reflection of the 1-1 draw with Bari, “and although they had some good spells, especially at the end of the first half, we commanded the game but just couldn’t find the killing blow. The lads worked incredibly hard on Monday night, but we simply couldn’t get that winning goal.”
“We started the game very well. We were more aggressive than Bari and intimidated them and created many chances in the opening half an hour. However, we only managed one goal before Bari showed their strength in pace and deserved to draw level before half time after squandering a few good chances of their own. The second half, however, belonged to Parma. Bari played a counter-attacking game that our defensive coped with fantastically but unfortunately our attackers were not able to be dangerous enough to find the winner. When you have 8 shots on target and over 10 corners, you cannot be disappointed with your team. Against Piacenza, we also drew 1-1, yet there we played poorly and could have lost. Against Bari however, though the score was the same, we played much better and deserved the 3 points. We did not manage to get into the top 6, but we are still chasing that’s for sure!”
“When we had a midfield trio of Budel, Morrone and Mariga, we had a strong midfield with lots of volume, but little dynamic. However, with a midfield of Leon, Budel, Morrone and Pisanu, we had a highly dynamic and lively set-up that linked up very well on Monday, especially in the first 20 minutes. But if our team has had a major fault this season, it has been out inability in creating goals through the midfield. All the strikers have been working so hard, but without decent service, all their work is futile. We are working heavily in training on getting the midfield to be more lively and introduce a bit of their own individuality to try to surprise opposition defences with less conventional movements on the football pitch.”
“I picked Giulio Falcone because we have been working together for forty days now and his professionalism has been supreme. I know he would be ready to play as if he had never been dropped and I think over the 90 minutes, he helped to cope with the very skilful Kamata very well. However, the important thing is, certainly not for the first time this season, we have won 1 point when we should have won 3. Not being able to kill games off is a psychological problem that is number one on our list of things to improve.”
