Sunday, 22 August 2010Friendly: Málaga 2-1 Parma
47′ Giovinco (PAR), 58′ Weligton (MAL), 80′ Edinho
Parma ended their pre-season campaign with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Málaga in the 2010 Trofeo Costa del Sol.
Giovinco and Marqués were the only impressive players for Parma during a drab first half where they struggled to create many opportunities. Málaga also exposed the lack of pace within the Parma defense which looked shaky at best as Parma went into halftime lucky to have not conceded.
It was Sebastian Giovinco that broke the deadlock for the visitors against the run of play just after half time. Bojinov showed great awareness to slip the ball to Giovinco who shoots first time to give Parma the lead.
However it was only to last ten minutes before Málaga drew level from a corner kick as Brazilian defender Weligton was allowed a free header for the equaliser. Parma failed to take hold of the game and it was no surprise when Málaga got the winning goal with ten minutes to go.
Parma captain Stefano Morrone gave the ball away which launched a Málaga counter attack that caused confusion between Paci and Paletta to allow Edinho to simply slot the ball home.
Dellafiore almost gifted Málaga a third before the game ended and Pasquale Marino is left with a few question marks on how he plans to approach the Serie A opener against Brescia on Sunday.
